Welcome to Work it Momma! Through the voices of three different mothers, this blog hopes to explore the issues surrounding new mothers and their decisions to return to work, stay home with their children, or find some other solution to the working-woman’s biggest challenge – motherhood.
In the January 2-8, 2010 issue, the Economist magazine published several articles on women in the workforce. To us the key take away is that the biggest factor in whether or not women earn as much as their male counterparts is not gender, but motherhood. Though we may be capable of the same jobs, women face a unique choice in the course of their careers– whether or not to bear and raise children.
Maybe you face this dilemma now, maybe you are thinking about the implications for your future, or maybe you faced these choices in recent years or long ago in times that were very different for women in the workplace. Whoever you are, we appreciate your interest in this blog and hope that it evokes meaningful thought, healthy laughter, and maybe even a sentimental tear now and again.
